Every garage, basement or storage room needs some organization, right? This storage bin rack system is something that caught my eye. It’s simple, cheap and easily customizable for any space.
Materials:
- Storage bins / totes
- 2″ x 4″ x 8′ lumber
- 2″ x 3″ x 8′ lumber
- #8 x 2-1/2″ construction screws
Getting Organized
Firstly, measure the space that you are using and determine the number of rows and columns that you can fit. Keep in mind, the bins are about 30″ deep, so you’ll need about 60″ of depth to make sure you can get them in and out easily.
Knowing the number of columns and rows, you can use the below calculator to determine the length and quantity of each piece.
Building
Pre-cutting spacers makes the build a lot smoother and ensures you have consistency. The individual bin support rails I use are 2″ x 3″ lumber. 2″ x 2″ and 2″ x 4″ lumber can be used too, but some of the spacer lengths will need to be adjusted accordingly.
- 12″ – spacing between bottom horizontal base and bottom of the first bin support rail.
- 14.5″ – spacing between top of bin support rail and the bottom of the support rail above it.
- 20.5″ – spacing between any two vertical supports.
